Chicken Feathers As Biodiesel And Hydrogen Storage

Chicken feathers in fact have more valuable benefit as material to make biodiesel fuel in addition to serve as fodder mixture and fertilizer. The scientists at the University of Nevada have found a way to make biodiesel fuel from chicken feathers through the process of extracted fat from chicken feather meal using boiling water and processing it into biodiesel.

Chicken feather meal is made up of chicken feathers, blood, and innards that have been processed. Chicken feather meal also has high protein, nitrogen, and fat. This fat is used by Prof. Misra the director of the University of Nevada as a non-food raw material for the production of biodiesel. The extracting process of fat from feather meal will also provide several advantages such as provides more healthy animal feed and good quality of nitrogen for fertilization.

The excess of chicken feather meal is also being investigated for hydrogen storage for fuel-cell vehicles. Chicken feather meal has more absorbent keratin fiber than wood. Professor Richard P. from the University of Delaware was doing testing with the carbonation process of the chicken feathers. Chicken feathers have very tiny natural sponges and a big weight advantage over metal hydride storage.

Chicken feathers can easily be found from a chicken farm and almost available in all countries of the world because most of us like to eat chicken meat. By using the chicken feather meal as a biofuel, we will be able to more easily obtain alternative fuels from basic materials easily found and available lots.
